The Stringybark Reserve Masterplan was Adopted by Council during the Ordinary Council Meeting 20 February 2025

Project Background

Council prepared the Stringybark Reserve Masterplan to guide ongoing upgrades and improvements to the park over time. Planning for the Masterplan commenced in 2023 with an initial community consultation (Stage 1) to understand park users ideas and suggestions. Council reviewed this information and prepared a draft Masterplan which was exhibited during a second round (Stage 2) of community consultation for further feedback prior to its Adoption by Council.



Stage 1 Consultation Outcomes (October - November 2023)

Council received 103 survey responses and 12 written submissions to this consultation. The report of the consultation results is available on this page under 'project documents'.


Stage 2 Consultation Outcomes (November 2024 - February 2025)

The consultation period occurred from 27 November 2024 to 2 February 2025 with the following channels:

  • Website Page
  • Online Survey
  • 2 notification signs with QR code on site
  • 4 E-Newsletter reminders
  • Various social media posts
  • Email to stakeholders

At close of the consultation, Council received:

  • 49 survey responses
  • 3 resident email submissions
  • 2 stakeholder/ resident group email submissions

The survey identified:

Respondents were asked to select their three most preferred improvements, with the following most selected:

  • 16 chose improved turf area
  • 15 chose playground upgrade, new basketball half court, and toilets
  • 14 chose lighting to the main footpath and water sensitive urban design (WSUD)
  • 13 chose picnic shelter • 87.8% respondents agreed to the proposed playground upgrade
  • 77.6% respondents agreed to the proposed community garden
  • 91.8% respondents agreed to the proposed turf bioswale to improve drainage in the off-leash dog area
  • 79.6% respondents agreed to the addition of an accessible toilet
  • 87.8% respondents agreed to the proposed active play

The email submissions highlighted, (with 5 total):

  • 4 requested to prioritise the stormwater/ drainage improvements
  • 4 requested to retain the existing cricket nets and tennis wall
  • 2 supported the proposed playground
  • 2 supported the proposed toilet
  • 1 was against the proposed toilet
  • 1 requested for more stormwater intervention



What was proposed in the Masterplan?

Following site analysis and feedback from the community, the Stringybark Masterplan proposes:

  • Upgrade to the playground, including and agility course, swing set and slides
  • Additional barbecue facilities
  • Upgrades to the community garden
  • New sport and workout facilities
  • Addition of an accessible toilet facility
  • Implementation of water-sensitive design to improve drainage, such as rain gardens and bioswales
  • Additional footpath to playground
  • Improved turf in the off-leash dog area

Why was a Masterplan made?

As part of the Lane Cove Operational and Delivery Plan 2023 - 2024 Stringybark Reserve was programmed for a masterplan.

Stringybark Reserve is a neighbourhood park in Lane Cove North, which was offering the following amenity prior to the 2025 Masterplan:

  • Play equipment
  • Community gardens
  • BBQ and picnic facilities
  • An off-leash dog area
  • Exercise facilities
  • Tennis wall
  • Basketball hoop
  • Cricket nets
  • Connection to Stringybark Creek bushwalk.
  • Drinking fountain

Council has added to the park over the years, such as the installation of the tennis wall in the 1980's, playground upgrades, and installation of picnic and BBQ facilities.

What is a Masterplan?

A Masterplan is a guide for ongoing changes and improvements to the park over time. Various elements will be addressed, such as current character of the space, it's uses, the public's needs, emerging issues and the local context surrounding.

Will the Masterplan determine the final design of Stringybark Reserve?

The Masterplan is to be a guiding tool, therefore further community consultation will occur before any significant changes happen to the reserve.

Why should I get involved?

By contributing to the survey, Council with gather an extensive understanding of what changes are needed at Stringybark Reserve. The Masterplan will be shaped in accordance with what needs be prioritised in this space.
