Burns Bay Reserve Masterplan
Consultation has concluded
Help us design an open space for you! Your feedback will help Council better determine the needs and desires of Lane Cove residents and visitors to this harbourside park.
As part of the Operational and Delivery Plan of Parks and Playgrounds 2023 - 2024, Burns Bay Reserve is programmed for a masterplan. A masterplan will be created to capture the whole reserve, including the waterfront area, sports fields, parking, playground, entry into the bushland and facilities of the reserve.
Background
Burns Bay Reserve was originally a place inhabited by the Cameraygal people. After European settlement, the area was a space of several industries, including tanneries and wooden pipe manufacturing. As the surrounding population grew in the 1900's, a section of Burns Bay was set aside as a reserve for recreation.
Today the reserve is used for mostly field sports and is frequented for its playground and access to the waterfront. Burns Bay has more recently been used for events such as the annual Lane Cove Food and Wine by the River.
What is a masterplan?
A masterplan is a guide for ongoing changes and improvements to the park over time. Various elements will be addressed, such as current character of the space, it's uses, the public's needs, emerging issues and the local context surrounding.
Will the masterplan determine the final design of Burns Bay Reserve?
The masterplan is to be a guiding tool, therefore further community consultation will occur before any significant changes happen to the reserve.
Why should I get involved?
By contributing to the survey, Council with gather an extensive understanding of what changes are needed at Burns Bay Reserve. The masterplan will be shaped in accordance with what needs be prioritised in this space.
