Friday 27 February Update:

Council began a consultation on 24 February 2026 about a proposal to extend the existing No Parking 7am–7pm, Monday–Saturday restriction on Miramont Avenue to also apply on Sundays. This consultation was based on advice received from Busways indicating that Sunday bus services operated along Miramont Avenue.

It has since been confirmed that this advice was incorrect and that Miramont Avenue is not included in the current Sunday bus timetable. Council acknowledges this error and apologises for any confusion it may have caused.

Notwithstanding the timetable clarification, Busways has continued to report manoeuvrability issues along Miramont Avenue, advising that parked vehicles can reduce the effective carriageway width and impact bus movements.

In light of the updated information, Council will undertake a further round of community consultation, incorporating previous resident feedback and the confirmed timetable details, before any decision is made.

Archived Information

Miramont Avenue currently has a No Parking 7am–7pm, Monday to Saturday restriction along sections of the street. The section relevant to this proposal is located on the southern side of Miramont Avenue, from 6 Miramont Ave to Tambourine Bay Road.

Outside of the current restricted times, including Sundays, parking is permitted.

Since last year, the bus timetable has been updated to include Sunday services. As a result, bus movements now occur seven days a week along Miramont Avenue.

It has been observed that vehicles park within the existing restricted zone during unrestricted periods, particularly on Sundays. When vehicles park along this section of Miramont Avenue, the effective carriageway width is reduced. Given the constrained road width, parked vehicles significantly impact bus maneuverability and may result in buses encroaching into the opposing lane.

The issue is further exacerbated during school events and peak activity periods, when increased traffic volumes and parking demand create additional congestion and operational constraints for buses.

What is being proposed?

It is proposed to amend the existing No Parking 7am–7pm, Monday to Saturday restriction on the southern side of Miramont Avenue, between No. 6 Miramont Avenue and Tambourine Bay Road, to No Parking at all times.

This amendment would align the parking restriction with current bus operations, including Sunday services, and provide consistent kerbside clearance throughout the week.

Benefits of the proposal

  • Improve bus accessibility and maneuverability seven days a week.
  • Minimise operational delays and improve service reliability.
  • Improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Reduce congestion during school events and high-demand periods.

Provide clearer and more consistent parking controls for road users.
