Council consulted affected residents on 24/02/2026 regarding extending the existing ‘No Parking 7am–7pm, Monday to Saturday’ restriction to include Sundays, based on advice that Sunday bus services operated along Miramont Avenue.
Council has since been advised by Busways that Miramont Avenue will not be included in the updated Sunday bus timetable. However, Busways has confirmed that buses continue to experience manoeuvrability issues along Miramont Avenue due to parked vehicles reducing the effective carriageway width.
Given the constrained road width, buses are required to encroach into the opposing lane when vehicles are parked within the restricted section. Busways have formally requested that Council consider the installation of ‘No Stopping’ zones to maintain adequate clearance for safe and efficient bus operations.
Similarly, Council has also received feedback from residents from the initial consultation expressing a preference for ‘No Parking’ to include Sundays, to improve safety and traffic flow especially including school events. Council has included this as an additional option in the current consultation.
In addition, Council has received concerns about congestion during school events. Council is currently working with St Ignatius College to formalise a Traffic Management Plan for future events, and the College is cooperating to minimise traffic and parking impacts on residents.
What is being proposed?
Council is now consulting on the following two options for the southern side of Miramont Avenue between No. 6 Miramont Ave and Tambourine Bay Road:
Option 1 – ‘No Stopping; 6:00AM–8:00PM; Monday to Saturday’
This option would prohibit stopping at any time during these hours.
Option 2 – ‘No Stopping; 6:00AM–8:00PM; Monday to Saturday and No Parking; 8:00AM–5:00PM; Sunday’
This option would extend parking restrictions to all seven days, with ‘No Stopping applying Monday to Saturday’ and ‘No Parking’ applying on Sundays to improve traffic flow during school events.
Benefits of the proposal
Improve bus manoeuvrability and reduce the need to enter the opposing lane.
Enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
Reduce congestion during peak periods and school events.
Provide clearer and more consistent parking controls.
