Climate Emergency Plan survey
Lane Cove Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019, becoming the 50th Australian Council to join other Governments Internationally in declaring a climate emergency. A climate emergency declaration acknowledges that climate change poses a threat to our society and requires immediate action by all levels of Government.
Council has been working to reduce our emissions and respond to the impact of a changing climate for many years. We adopted our first Sustainability Action Plan in 2006, and a Climate Resilience Action Plan in 2021.
We are now transitioning our Climate Resilience Plan into a new Climate Emergency Plan to guide the direction of actions to respond to this issue over the next 4 years and are seeking input from our community with regards to what they see as the key concerns, opportunities for action, and options for Council to explore.
How to get involved
Online survey
Provide your feedback on key concerns and areas of action via the survey link below.
The survey will close on 19 April 2026.
Community Workshops
We are running 2 workshops for our community to learn more about the issue of climate change and what Council has been doing so far, and provide their input into the issues and actions to be included in the Climate Emergency Plan. Light refreshments will be provided for attendees.
The workshops will be held on:
- Tuesday 10 March in the Cove Room at Lane Cove Council Civic Centre between 6pm-8pm.
- Thursday 12 March in the Cove Room at Lane Cove Council Civic Centre between 10am-12pm.
Please register for either of these workshops here.
Pop-Up Stall
Council will be hosting 2 pop-up stalls where community members can drop by and share their ideas, participate in short activities or gain assistance with the survey.
- Wednesday 11 March at Lane Cove Library 10am-12pm.
- Wednesday 11 March at Lane Cove Plaza 2pm-4pm.
Registrations not required.
Public Exhibition of Draft Climate Emergency Plan
Feedback received through these engagements will be considered alongside input from other activities such as risk assessment and climate modelling and incorporated into the development of the Draft Climate Emergency Plan. The draft Plan will then be taken to Council for endorsement to go on Public Exhibition, at which point the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback.
