Council previously consulted nearby residents on a proposal to install ‘No Stopping’ restrictions on both sides of Chisholm Street near its southern junction with Greenwich Road, Greenwich.

The matter was presented to the Transport Forum on 18/11/2025 and subsequently considered at the Council Meeting on 11/12/2025, where it was resolved that further consultation be undertaken.

The key issue at this location is restricted sight distance and constrained vehicle turning movements around the bend leading into the southern junction. Parked vehicles close to the corner reduce visibility for approaching motorists and create potential vehicle conflict.

Following earlier consultation, additional concerns were raised by residents regarding the impact on on-street parking availability. Council has therefore reviewed the proposal to provide a more targeted parking restriction that addresses safety concerns while minimising parking loss.

What is being proposed?

Council now proposes the following revised arrangement:

  • Retain the proposed ‘No Stopping’ restriction on the southern side of Chisholm Street near the southern junction with Greenwich Road.
  • Install 14 metres of ‘No Stopping’ around the bend on the northern side of Chisholm Street to improve sight lines and vehicle manoeuvrability.
  • Formalise the 10-metre statutory ‘No Stopping’ restriction at the junction in accordance with road rules requirements.

The proposal focuses specifically on improving safety at the bend immediately before the southern junction, rather than applying broader restrictions along the street.

Benefits of the proposal

  • Improve bus accessibility and maneuverability seven days a week.
  • Minimise operational delays and improve service reliability.
  • Improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Reduce congestion during school events and high-demand periods.
  • Provide clearer and more consistent parking controls for road users.
