Council has received concerns regarding vehicle maneuverability and safety along the northern section of Alpha Road approaching Gamma Road.

Alpha Road is a narrow local street. The eastern section narrows further where the kerb alignment reduces and a rock face appears along the verge. The carriageway width reduces from approximately 7.3 metres to 6.75 metres, creating constrained conditions for two-way traffic.

When vehicles park in this narrowed section, opposing vehicles may experience difficulty passing safely. This can result in vehicles needing to give way within the carriageway or reverse to allow through movement, increasing the potential for conflict.

Council has therefore reviewed the location to determine whether parking restrictions are required to improve safety and traffic flow.

What is being proposed?

Council is consulting on the following options for Alpha Road between No. 9 Alpha Road and Gamma Road:

Option 1:

Introduce No Parking 6:00am–2:00pm Wednesdays for Garbage Truck access.

Option 2:

Introduce No Parking – Full Time.

The proposed restriction would apply to the narrowed section of roadway to maintain adequate carriageway width for two-way traffic.

Benefits of the proposal

  • Improve vehicle maneuverability along the narrowed section.
  • Reduce conflict between opposing vehicles.
  • Improve safety by maintaining adequate carriageway width.
  • Provide clearer parking controls in a constrained location.
