Council is seeking your feedback on our Draft Social Inclusion Strategy, endorsed for public exhibition at the Council meeting on 24 April 2025.
Why we need a Social Inclusion Strategy?
Lane Cove Council recognises the importance of social inclusion in creating a thriving community and the important role Council holds in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment that responds to the diverse needs of all community members.
Reasearch shows that communities with high social cohesion experience lower crime rates, better health outcomes and higher levels of happiness. Conversely, a lack of cohesion can lead to division, alienation and unrest.
Council aims to ensure that all individuals regardless of their background have equal opportunities to participate in civic life, access resources and feel valued and respected. Prioritising inclusivity and actively engaging with diverse populations will lead to a strong, more resilient community that values and celebrates its diversity. Council considers the assessment of how socially inclusive we are as fundamental to the provision of appropriate and well thought out services and infrastructure.
The purpose of the Social Inclusion Strategy is to create a roadmap to support Council to strengthen its current achievements and address the barriers to social inclusion in the longer term.
