Lane Cove Council, in partnership with Rotary Lane Cove, is seeking community feedback on a proposal to install five (5) Peace Poles in or around The Canopy. Peace Poles are internationally recognised monuments that carry the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in a range of languages or visual styles. They aim to inspire peace, unity and civic pride in communities around the world.
Consultation is now open. Your feedback will help Council confirm the final location, design and delivery approach.
About the proposal
Rotary Lane Cove has proposed installing five Peace Poles to celebrate peace, inclusion and connection.
The proposal may include:
A Rotary-themed pole
An Indigenous-designed pole
A school competition design
A local artist design
A special commissioned design (subject to feasibility)
Rotary also hopes to gift Peace Poles to:
The winning school, and
Lane Cove’s sister city, Gunnedah

Benefits
Issues/potential challenges
1
Right side of The Canopy stage
Provides strong visibility from the main lawn and aligns with the Club’s intention for community prominence.
Subsurface services associated with the stage structure.
Installation may require detailed service mapping and potentially hand-digging to avoid damage.
2
Left side of The Canopy stage
This option has proximity to the main activity area of The Canopy and sight lines from the lift area and playground.
This is Rotary Lane Cove's preferred location.
Would require removal or adjustment of existing shrubs/plantings.
Possible conflicts with underground services similar to Location 1.
3
Entry area next to the lifts and BBQs behind The Canopy Stage
This position provides good visibility for arriving visitors and ample installation depth.
Fewer known service conflicts.
Adequate space for multiple poles and interpretive signage.
Not within the main lawn area, which is not the Rotary Club’s preferred location.
Reduced integration with the stage precinct activation area.
