Marjorie York Park Playground Upgrade
Concept Design
Following site analysis and consideration of community feedback via the Have Your Say survey process, Council has developed the below Concept Design for the rejuvenated Marjorie York Playground and Reserve.
The community requested climbing / active play and imaginary / sensory play, and valued the variety of play offered by a multi play unit and swings. The proposal organises these top community priorities into a space that takes advantage of the existing shade and creates a new open lawn space in the centre of the park that can be used for a variety of purposes.
The ground plane is simplified, removing old edging that has become a trip hazard and minimal earthworks and a dry creek bed will add both play value and mitigate erosion following rainfall. The steamroller remains as an iconic park landmark.
Council will now refine the detailed design, whilst new equipment is in production and a construction contractor engaged, we anticipate works to be underway in early 2026.
Thanks for all those who contributed!

Consultation Overview:
- Consultation ran from July 14 to August 14, 2025.
- The Council received 48 survey responses and 4 written submissions.
- Most survey respondents (nearly 70%) were aged 35–54, and 80% either lived nearby or were adjacent residents to the reserve.
- Most respondents use the park specifically for the playground.
Key Findings and Community Priorities:
- Current Condition & Maintenance: A common concern is the park's "tired" appearance. The long-term closure of the toddler play equipment was a predominant issue.
- Assets: The park valued for its location near shops, it’s natural shade and fencing, which is considered a major safety positive. The steamroller is a highly valued feature.
- Play Values Priorities: The existing Multi Play Unit and the swings were identified as the most important play value pieces.
- Priorities for New/Upgraded Equipment: The top two requests for new features were Climbing/Active Play and Imaginary/Sensory Play.
- Amenity Improvements: common requests were the addition of toilet facilities, extra seating/benches, and a water bubbler. Improving maintenance (e.g., bins) was also suggested.
The community strongly supports the upgrade and views it as an opportunity to address existing issues of maintenance and outdated equipment, while retaining the park's historical features and improving play variety for all age groups.
The report will inform the design of the playground upgrade in this financial year’s budget and will assist in planning for future upgrades for any park amenities that will require additional funding
Stage 1 Consultation
As part of Council's Playground Strategy, Marjorie York Playground is scheduled for upgrade.
Council is collecting preliminary information from the experts (the kids and families ) to understand what the community values about this park, which will inform what will be implemented this financial year (2025-26).
