Council in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has funded a Speed Reduction proposal for the Lane Cove North area. Initial consultation for the project was undertaken in February 2024, as such, Council is providing an update on the proposal.
The approved design for the Centennial Avenue/Karilla Avenue intersection included a wombat crossing and associated street lighting. Council is currently liaising with Ausgrid on the proposed lighting as the construction works for the lighting component will be undertaken by Ausgrid.
The wombat crossing and lighting are scheduled to be delivered by the end of this financial year.
In addition to the above, to ensure the 40km/h speed limit reduction along Karilla Avenue, can be implemented this financial year, TfNSW have directed Council to undertake further line marking works on Karilla Avenue between Kurri Street and the cul-de-sac.
There are no proposed changes to current on-street parking arrangements.
It is important to note that if this line marking is not implemented, TfNSW will not allow a speed limit reduction in your street, and the speed limit on Karilla Avenue will remain at 50km/h.
What is being proposed?
Installation of a centreline marking and parking lane on both sides of Karilla Avenue from Kurri Street to cul-de-sac (i.e. a continuation of line marking on Karilla Avenue from Centennial Avenue to Kurri Street).

Any comments received will be reviewed and evaluated to determine next steps for this proposal.
After reviewing the submissions Council will refer the proposal to a Local Transport Forum for consideration and will be referred to the subsequent Council meeting for adoption.
