About Lane Cove's Civic Art Collection

Lane Cove Council is developing a new policy to care for its growing collection of artworks - a shared cultural treasure held in trust for our community, now and into the future.

Our Civic Art Collection tells stories about who we are. It celebrates the creativity, diversity and identity of Lane Cove, showcasing the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, local emerging artists, and established creators. From civic buildings and libraries to public spaces and beyond, these artworks are woven into the places where our community gathers, learns and grows.

Why does this matter?

A strong art collection strengthens community identity and cultural pride. It preserves our artistic heritage, supports local artists, and ensures that beautiful and meaningful works remain accessible for everyone - today and tomorrow.

This new policy sets out clear, professional standards for how we acquire, manage, display, decommission and care for these artworks. It's built on best-practice principles used by galleries and cultural institutions everywhere, adapted for Lane Cove.

We want your input

This is a draft policy, and your feedback matters. Whether you're an artist, a regular visitor to our spaces, or simply curious about the art that surrounds us, we'd like to hear your thoughts. Use the feedback form below to share your ideas about what should be in our collection and how it should be managed.
