Car Share Policy 2025: Public Exhibition and Community Consultation

Lane Cove Council is inviting community feedback on the Draft Car Share Policy 2025 , which is now on public exhibition.

Car sharing is a sustainable transport option that reduces private vehicle ownership, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and makes better use of our urban parking spaces.

The Car Share Policy provides a framework for assessing applications and allocating on-street and off-street car share spaces within the Lane Cove Local Government Area (LGA).

What’s new in the 2025 Draft Policy?

  • Maximum car share allocation: A new provision limits car share spaces to no more than 5% of available on-street parking on any single street or length of road. This aims to balance sustainable transport options with the need to retain general public parking.

  • Four-day booking limit: A new restriction limiting individual bookings to a maximum of four days to encourage higher vehicle turnover and better access for more residents.

  • Updated operator obligations: Enhanced requirements for car share operators, including updated environmental standards, vehicle safety ratings, clear vehicle identification, and more detailed usage reporting.

  • Improved structure and formatting: The policy has been reformatted for greater clarity and ease of use.

  • Stakeholder feedback: The draft policy incorporates feedback from car share operators such as GoGet and Flexicar to improve effectiveness and address operational considerations.

Why is this important?

By refining the Car Share Policy, Council aims to continue supporting a more sustainable, accessible, and balanced use of our streets and public spaces. Your feedback will help ensure the policy reflects community needs and priorities.
